The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle
Dolittle.
I had the opportunity to work on Dolittle while at MPC; a very fun project with a unique cast of characters. My responsibilities for the show included creating physically believable dynamic fur, cloth, and muscle simulations for the hero characters, Poly the parrot (Emma Thompson), Chee-Chee the gorilla (Rami Malek), Yoshi the polar bear (John Cena), Plimpton the ostrich (Kumail Nanjiani), Dab Dab the duck (Octavia Spencer), and one of the antagonists of the story, Barry, King Rassouli’s tiger (Ralph Fiennes). In addition, I also sculpted corrective blend shapes to create appealing skin deformations, fix intersecting geometry, and correct technical issues coming from animation. I was also afforded the opportunity to create the cloth simulation rig for the bandaged variant of Poly after her wing is injured in an exchange with Barry. The simulation rig was set up to use nCloth in Maya. My other contributions to the project includes creating dynamic simulations for environmental elements such as grass and the metal prison chain that binds Dolittle (Robert Downey Jr.) during his exchange with Barry.
